Expanding Raid10 [DL380 G5 / Smart Array P400, FW 7.22 / ESX 5.5]
I have running a P400 with 4x 150GB SAS in Raid10 and want replace the disks with 300GB SAS. My fist question: Is there any chance to to this by just replacing the Disks step-by-step and waiting for rebuild?
- replace Disk1 150GB by 300GB, start, wait for rebuild done
...
- replace Disk4 150GB by 300GB, start, wait for rebuild done
-> Now, can the P400 detect the new size and let me expand from 300GB to 600GB ?
Currently there is also another Raid1 with 2x1TB which could be removed temporary, so another way could be:
- remove 1TB Raid1
- add 4x300GB Disks and configure a new Raid10
- clone all data (dd?)
- remove the old Raid10 (4x150GB) and put back the 1TB Raid1
-> Is the controller now re-detecting the 1TB raid or do I need some manual configuration?
And then the last big question: If all the data is cloned to the new Raid10 does anyone know if there are some special steps needed to boot up the ESX5.5 installed on that Raid10? Can the volume easly be extended to the new size?
