hard drive error 1779

Hello,

i cannot boot into logical drive due to earlier hard drive failure.

i have a RAID 0 of 4 physical hard disks, one of my hard disks has failed ( server froze but one of the hard disk led was amber ), i restarted the server and when it back up the disk status was ok , but logical disk is reporting this error

i did test the physical drive that was failed previously and it was ok

the only option i have now is to re-enable failed logical drive, but there might be data loss ( these hard disks was hosting an OS )

logical hard disk info as the below

does anyone have any idea what to do? and if there is no other options but to repaird ( re-enable failed logical hard drive) will there still be a data loss even though the hard disk report its ok now?

Thanks in advance folks.

Re: hard drive error 1779

Hi Maher,

Before proceeding further just wanted to inform that Raid 0 has zero faul tolerance meaning that if there is a driver failure which has happened then the array is gone. If the data is important then we do not recommend Raid 0 which has no fault tolerance. Lets say the drive has not failed but due to some reasong the logical drive is disabled after reboot.  First need to check if data is backed up. The Logical drive disabled is an informational message and you can check the entire message when you log into Smart Storage Administrator(This is an information message).

Now this needs to be checked because the drive which had amber LED has the meta data or not or has been wiped off meaning that the drive will not know if it is part of any array. But if the data is backed up please proceed to re-enable the logical drive and the logical volume will come online.

Regards,

Bunsol

Re: hard drive error 1779

Hello bunsol,

Thanks for your fast reply, i have checked storage administration and this is the entire error message

unfortunately we have not taken any manual backups, could there be an automatic backup for meta data and if so , how to restore it? and i really hope that my entire raid has not wiped off.

thanks in advance.

Re: hard drive error 1779

Hi Maher

There is no automatic backup as such. But as you mentioned that the drive had gone into failed status and after reboot it came back online hence we cannot say. Since all the 4 drives were in Raid 0 which we do not recommend if multiple drives are used(and data is important) and one drive had failed meaning that the array is already gone. You can try to re-enable the logical drive and check but this we cannot guarantee because of the Raid selected initially.
