hp array configuration utility not working

We have 2 servers running Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise 64 bit on dl385s running Exchange 2007. The array configuration utility no longer works. I am suspecting Exchange 2007 Rollup 4 that was recently installed as the array utility still works on the other 64 bit machines. Can anyone confirm this problem with a similar configuration?

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

hi

what do you mean by "The array configuration utility no longer works. "?

what is happening when you open the Array configuration utility (ACU)? an error? ACU is not loading? or what?

have you tried the latest version?

let us know

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

yes I'm using the latest version and have installed all the latest drivers from the latest firmware cd. When I try to open the array utility all I get is a blank web page. If I try to access through System Management none of the agents display anything. With the same machine, same operating system, same updates on a machine without exchange 2007 rollup 4 - it works as expected

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

"You use Microsoft Update to apply Update Rollup 4 for Exchange 2007. Or, you apply the update rollup in silent mode. When you do this, certain services in Exchange Server 2007 are stopped and are disabled.

If SNMP service is started re-install the PSP.

This should configure everything back to normal..

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

tried all suggestion and still doesn't work. Only thing I get on system management page is overall system status - no failed degraded items (which is false by the way as we have a bad drive)

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

hi

- try this unistall again PSP 7.9 (remove all hp programs on Add/Remove Programs)
- Remove also SNMP
- reboot
- install and configure SNMP again
- Install PSP 7.9 again (check if you get any error or log when you install PSP)
- if the continue upload the SMHP log to check any agent is causing that so you have to inactive that agent on control Panel (Hp agents)

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

uninstalled all HP agents (PSP), uninstalled SNMP, rebooted, reinstalled SNMP, reinstalled PSP 7.9 64bit, rebooted. Still nothing on system management page other than what was there before. Log shows nothing unusual.

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

hi mmmm let's see

like you read on my thread I issue ws related with the NIC agent I inactivated it and SMHP worked my recommendation go to Control Panel and play with the agents I mean there are two status ACTIVE and INACTIVE try one agent at a time I think this can help you

special attention to this

1.
"
When the SMH web-based user interface begins to load, it queries all the agents for status to populate the data onto the body of the page. If any of the agents (including the Version Control Agent) are unable to communicate back within a certain timeframe, SMH will timeout the data collection process."

so according to this one agent (or more) is having issues so when SMHP queries its data
is causing this blank screen.

2.
I think because you already tried configuring SNMP, latest SHMP, HP insight agents and version control agent (which sometimes tend to fail)

just in case try install these again
HP Version Control Agent for Windows
HP System Management Homepage for Windows
HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

well

SNMP

that is important to have SMHP working
SNMP is a Windows Service I suppose you have it installed

check the attached file

that's what I mean when I say SNMP is configured?

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

Using Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the Systems Management Homepage, Version Control Agent, IM Agents, & SNMP. Before having a customer remove SNMP from their system, ensure that they have Microsoft media available (i.e., their Operating System CD) so that they can reinstall it... Then re-add SNMP, modifying properties (in Services) to add a public & private strings with read/write permissions. Next either install IM Agents then the SMHP, *OR* install PSP (which accomplishes both).

Ports 161 and 162 are the SNMP ports..

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

SNMP = Simple Network Management Protocol, SMHP uses the SNMP service in order to comunicate with the agents..

If the Service has been disable by the Exchange 2007 Rollup or a firewall is blocking ports 161 and 162 the SMHP will start but will populate nothing since it cannot retrieve the info from the agents..

mmm

"You use Microsoft Update to apply Update Rollup 4 for Exchange 2007. Or, you apply the update rollup in silent mode. When you do this, certain services in Exchange Server 2007 are stopped and are disabled.
"

I have not read that carefully... cool to know if Exchange stopped SNMP Service.... which should be running not stopped or disable in order to have SMHP working

Re: hp array configuration utility not working

I used windows update to install the rollup. One of the servers is an edge server which is outside the firewall so ports are not an issue. Even behind the ISA firewall it is not a problem because there are 10 other servers both 32bit and 64bit without exchange that continue to work. The SNMP service is running. I am virtually a 100% certain if you read carefully that the only possible issue is exchange 2007 rollup.
