HP DL380 G7 P410i controler Cache disabled

Hi all,

i have a strange issue and hope someone can point me in the right direction the cacheing is permanently disabled but the reports show capacitor status is ok, i do not know why the cache is permanently disabled or how to switch it back on, i have heard some prople say turn off the server and unplug the card from the PCIe slot or remove all disks while turned off and this should renable but i am unsure of doing this or losing data.

The current performance of the pool is very bad and i am having some major performance issues with the pool

(the pool is also almost full which we are addressing with a new fileserver but as the performance on this unit is so bad it is draging out the migration to the new file  server)

Re: HP DL380 G7 P410i controler Cache disabled

Does the controller have firmware version 6.64 or lower?

It could be a problem of the cache module itself.

see advisory

Re: HP DL380 G7 P410i controler Cache disabled

The message is now "backup to flash failed", this IMHO means the cache modul is bad.

The module has the cache memory and flash memory. In case of a power failure the module copies the cache contents to the flash memory, but this is not possible anymore, hence the disabled write cache.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP DL380 G7 P410i controler Cache disabled

Hi All,

thought i would add that it also complains that parity initalization has failed, would this cuase the cache to be permanentley disabled?

also is there a way i can diagnose that it realy is a faulty cache module before buying a new one?
