HP DL380 Gen 9 + P840 Cache disabled
Hi,
I have bought a couple of HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 with P840 Smart Array Controler (SKU 752688-B21). Both are working fine but have a problem with the cache module.
In ILO System information, Status for storage is "Degraded"
Cache Module Status is Failed
HP SSA reports shows : the cache is permanently disabled.
Cache status : ATTR_VALUE_CACHE_STATE_DISABLED_CABLE_ERROR
Active Health log shows :
Drive Array Cache Module Battery Failure (Chassis 2, Bus Unknown, Slot 2)
However battery is fine. It was included in the server
The controller is fine also, it has been already replaced on one of the machines.
It looks like my P840 cannot find the battery. On Dl380 Gen9 the battery is connected to the motherboard, not to the controler

Re: HP DL380 Gen 9 + P840 Cache disabled
Same issue on ML350 Gen9 + P440.
Battery is present, cable from the mainboard to the battery is seated properly. And the cable from the Smart Array Controller to the mainboard is seated properly.
The issue also Flashes Amber status lights on the controller.
This server had an unattached hex bolt rolling around in the power supply assembly bays when we recieved it~ Nice..

Re: HP DL380 Gen 9 + P840 Cache disabled
In my case, it turned out that the cable between the P840 FBWC module and the PCI Riser was missing on both servers.
HP Customer service provided me with the missing part (792836-001)
