HP DL580 G5 and redundant PSUs

Hi, recently our hosting provider scheduled a power maintence to replace one of their UPSs. Our DL580 G5 has 4 redundant power supplies. Two were plugged into the A circuit and two were in the B circuit.

When the B side was shut down, the server went down too. I expected the server to stay up. What caused it to go down? If we lost a single power supply, I would expect the server to stay up. Can someone explain it to the newbie?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: HP DL580 G5 and redundant PSUs

Hi,

Power supply configuration depends on the number of processors installed in the DL580 G5.

Refer to this QuickSpecs and check DL580 G5 system power redundancy behavior, page# 50, 51.

Refer to Best Practices for Power Supply Configuration in the ProLiant DL580 G5 Server.

Thank You!
