HP ProLiant DL120 G5 FAN issue and replacement
Hi,
We recently found out our HP ProLiant DL120 G5 is making a lot noise and the following critical alarts are logged in ILO Monitoring Sensors:
Fan CPU FAN1 Rotor1 Upper Critical 14880.95 RPM
Fan CPU FAN1 Rotor2 Upper Non-recoverable 14880.95 RPM
Fan CPU FAN2 Rotor1 Upper Non-recoverable 15873.01 RPM
Fan CPU FAN2 Rotor2 Upper Critical 14005.6 RPM
Fan SYS FAN1 Rotor1 Upper Critical 15873.01 RPM
Fan SYS FAN1 Rotor2 Upper Non-recoverable 14005.6 RPM
I understood that there were 3 dual-rotor fans installed in the server. I need to order new fans to replace those broken ones. My question now:
1. Are these 3 fans the same part number? (CPU FAN1, CPU FAN2, SYS FAN1)
2. Is it easy to replace these 3 fans?
I did initial research and found the links below:
It shows how to replace system fans but not CPU fans and couldn't find out where CPU fans are located and their part number.
Please help.
Regards,
Dingy

Re: HP ProLiant DL120 G5 FAN issue and replacement
Hi,
personally I prefer the 'service and maintenance guides'.
You can find the one for DL120 G5 there.
And the service media library: http://h20464.www2.hp.com/index.html
The videos are nice and it looks very easy to replace the fans.
There is no fan directly over the CPU, just a heatsink.
The fans are all the same, they're just called differently depending on what they cool.
See page 67 in the service and maintenance guide.

Re: HP ProLiant DL120 G5 FAN issue and replacement
Hi,
About the Fan noise issue:
You can resolve the issue by Upgrading the System BIOS firmware and Lights-Out 100 Remote Management firmware.
Refer the following advisorys:
ProLiant ML110 G5 and ProLiant DL120 G5 Servers - FIRMWARE UPGRADE RECOMMENDED: System Fans May Continuously Spin At a High Speed:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01705920

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01790082
You can download the both the firmware from following location:
