HP Proliant DL380 Gen10 impossible to install Windows server

Hello,

I configured the raid in raid 10. The logical drive is detected but. I put the installation files on a usb stick. I have the iso too on this disk :

-When I try to boot to the USB key, it doesn't boot.

-When I boot to the USB key in legacy mode I can access to the installation but it doesn't detect the disk to install the OS on.

-When press F10 and use the HP utility and choose "file on USb" I can choose the iso but after the restart I have a message no media available

-I plugged a CD reader directly to the motherboard (I don't have external one), I can run the installation from the HP utility or when I boot to the CD reader but no disk detected to install the OS on.

Do you have a solution for that?

Thank you

And I forgot one information, When I try to install it from the CD reader connected to the motherboard, if I do a diskpart I can see :

disk o o

disk 1 960Gb (so the logical drive)

but it tries to install it on disk 0 and iI cannot to change that

Try,

try the Rufus Tool.

This works well for me.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 Gen10 impossible to install Windows server

Hi,

I created the usb key with diskpart (I tried UEFI and EXFAT) and Rufus.

All the time the same, the server doesn't boot on it.

I can boot on the usb key on my laptop.

Please refer HPE Intelligent Provisioning - Server Configuration and OS Installation

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c05147501&docLocale=en_US

Based on above HPE article, Select the source media from which you are installing the OS.

Media types include:

Physical DVD or iLO virtual media (default) - A standard bootable OS DVD/CD-ROM media, and virtual media through iLO.

Select this option when using a DVD drive connected to a USB port.

Microsoft Windows or Samba Network Share - The network share that contains the OS installation files.

FTP - The FTP server that contains OS installation files.

The FTP media option is supported for VMware and Red Hat Enterprise Linux only.

USB Key - The USB flash drive that contains the OS installation files

Only FAT-formatted USB drives are supported. For OS image files that cannot copy to the USB unless it is NTFS-formatted, use a different source media, such as a DVD, network share, or FTP server.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 Gen10 impossible to install Windows server

I experienced similar problems with Windows Server 2012. One main problem was that the disk must be defined as boot drive in the RAID controller setup too. It is not enough to set the correct boot order in the server BIOS only.

Win2012 tells you that the disk you try to install Windows on, ist not set as boot drive. I don't know how other versions handle that.

So make sure that you enter the Smart Array controller setup (from BIOS or by Smart Storage Admin.) and set the drive bootable. That might solve your problem.
