HP Proliant ML330 G6 unexpected shutdown

Every so often our HP Proliant ML330 G6 server will reboot unexpectedy on its own.  Event viewer shows:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.  This error could be cause if the system stopped responding, crashed or lost power unexpectedly."

There are no entries indicating a problem in the Event Viewer just before the reboot.  The Server is on UPS power.

Could it be a power supply problem?

Firmware?

I'm a bit of a newbie to the HP server world so any advice, suggestions, comments would be appreciated.

Have you loaded the latest drivers, agents and diagnostics on the server?

First, install SNMP for the local host.

Then, the easiest way to install these needed drivers and agents is with the SmartStart CD, here:

Then you can use the Firmware CD to update all the components in one pass, here:

Thanks for the info.  I'm attempting to do some research on SNMP right now.

I'm assuming that when you said install SNMP for the "local host", this means to install it on another computer that will be used to monitor/control the HP server that I've been having problems with.

I neglected to mention it it in my original post but we are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard on the problematic HP server.

you use snmp to monitor, but, in the meantime, installing snmp (without configuring any data) will allow you to fully install the SmartStart software.  After you have a system to review the trap info (such as HP SIM Server), you can program the info into it for where to send it too.
