hp proliant ml350 g5 - Windows 2012 install issues
Hi everyone,
I have a hp proliant ml350 g5 and trying to install windows 2012. I can get the pc to boot to the usb, and start loading the windows files. Once the files are loaded, I see the windows logo, and it just stalls here forever... Things I have tried so far are:
Removed RAM to see if it was causing this.... didnt help
Deleted and re-created Disk Arrays... didnt help
Ran the firmware upgrade CD from HP.... didnt help
Tried istalling windows 2008 R2 ... same issue
Tried installing both win2008 and 2012 with dvds .... no difference
Im not sure if Im doing this right. Ive never used one of these before.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: hp proliant ml350 g5 - Windows 2012 install issues
Hi,
Refer to Windows Server Certification and Support.
http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/windows.aspx#.VSIqeGccTbg
Windows 2012 is not supported on G5 servers.
Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) is supported by HP an all HP ProLiant Servers when utilizing Service Pack 1 only.
I would suggest to update the firmware on the server like, BIOS, Array Controller and then install a compatible OS.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee

Re: hp proliant ml350 g5 - Windows 2012 install issues
Yes we have installed successfully without updating any BIOS or firmware.
It is running since 6 months with out any issue.
Try it once.

Re: hp proliant ml350 g5 - Windows 2012 install issues
As already said - Server 2012 is not supported on G5 models. I tried installing myself once on a DL380 G5 - well it does work, but you won't be able to use HP Management Software.
An interesting thing to know would be which configuration of ML350 G5 you are running (CPUs, Memory, Storage Controller, NICs). Smart Array E200i for example is quite crappy - installing a P400 controller would be a useful upgrade.
