HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller and EG0900FBLSK drives
Hi,
I have just bought two EG0900FBLSK drives (http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10318310) to use in my old HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller.
The problem is - I can't make the array controller to recognize these drives.
I have tried both online and offline ROM flash with the flash components from HP, but neither has worked.
The online is telling me that there is no device (while the controller has cache, so online should install) and the offline install tells me that "There are 0 devices that can be updated."
What might be wrong?
Could it be that this array controller is not compatible with this drive - but if that's the case why HP is publishing online ROM flash component for the given drive and controller.
Thanks

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller and EG0900FBLSK drives
You could try to add these files to SPP:
http://downloads.linux.hp.com/downloads/SPP/rhel/5.0/i686/current/CP020206.md5
http://downloads.linux.hp.com/downloads/SPP/rhel/5.0/i686/current/CP020206.scexe
This is version HPD7B.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller and EG0900FBLSK drives
Hi Suman_1978,
I'm sorry, but I dont understand what you mean under this drive is for "storage and EVA devices".
If you take a look at this link it list ML350 servers under compatibility - altought only G6 and not G5, which I suspected might be the problem, but I don't see any reference to "storage and EVA devices"

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller and EG0900FBLSK drives
Hi,
Please find the QuickSpecs for ML350 G5.
Note that there is no 900GB drive listed as compatible.
Can you provide the Spare Part number that you see on the drive, lets check its compatibility.
Thank You!

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 with E200i array controller and EG0900FBLSK drives
According to ilagi's link, the part number would be 619291-B21.
And if you look at the QuickSpecs of the Smart Array E200 controller ( http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#!spectype=worldwide&type=html&docid=12460 ), you'll find that exact part number among the list of supported disks.
Yes, the E200 is not exactly the same as E200i - but the only difference is that E200i has the hardware of a E200 controller integrated into the system board of a server. They even use the same firmware updates.
I seem to recall that someone in another thread mentioned a similar situation: when new HDD models become available, the QuickSpecs of the servers are not always updated to reflect that - but the individual QuickSpecs of the Smart Array controllers seem to be.
By the way, what is the firmware version of the E200i array controller? If it is less than 1.72, the controller will not notify about the firmware update requirement... and although the firmware release notes don't say that explicitly, it might be possible that the updated controller firmware is needed for the disk firmware updates to be successful.
I would recommend first updating the E200i firmware to the latest. At that point, it will probably start showing you a notice about the disk firmware update at every boot.
