HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
Have 226.1.107000 installed on a Dl380G10, trying to update to current version (230...). Tried through ILO, tried through Bios, and also tried the vmware update package. All fail. Error for bios and ilo installs are (internal error, class 0x23, code 0x448).
Also tried an incremental update to 227... same issue.

Re: HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
Hi @Dave Kuhn
You can try an offline method for updating the firmware, here you can look at this document.
For more information, you can also refer to these videos to update the firmware.

Re: HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
Hi Greeshma, I tried both offline methods I am aware of... first using ILO and uploading to the firmware repo and attempting install from there (failed), then by mounting the spp and booting to it directly and attempting both automated and manual install (failed with the same error as from firmware as indicated above). Then I tried from esxi and it also failed showing the same error. Finally tried installing the first released firmware after the version I have installed and that also failed with the same error.

Re: HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
Hi @Dave Kuhn
Please note that the firmware package has the minimum version (NVM Image version 216.0.333011). Please refer to the following link to update the firmware first.
Refer to the link for revision history and the installation instructions for more info.
Regards,
Greeshma

Re: HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
That is the link I used to download the fwpkg (both 230.1.123000 and 227.1.111000). Those are the files I tried uploading to the ILO repo then installing from there. For the spp boot from bios I let it determine which file to use itself... and for the install from esxi I used CP06218.zip. For the "boot to spp" method I used: Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant 2024.11.00.00
They all appear to be the correct firmware versions for the adapter for each of the install methods... but none work. Interestingly this is affecting a single host... all the other hosts have 640flr... 2p 10/25gbe adapter and they all updated without issue.
When I try to install from ILO I get the following info from the firmware install screen:
HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Firmware Package for BCM5741x adapters
and in the iLO event log I get this unhelpful info:
also note that using OneView to update fails also (appears to be the same issue)

Re: HPE Eth 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR-SFP28 Adptr firmware update failing all methods...
Since the problem is limited to one host and its 640FLR adapter, try the following:
Reseat the Adapter[Power off the server, remove the 640FLR NIC, and reinsert it to ensure a proper connection.]
Verify the adapter's LED indicators for signs of hardware failure and swap the adapter with one from a working host to determine if the issue follows the card.
Temporarily remove the adapter and check if firmware updates (like system ROM) apply successfully without the NIC.
Disable the 640FLR NIC in the server BIOS/UEFI(For temporary) and retry the firmware update process for other components
Hope this helps! Let me know
