Lost iLO 5 Password - High Security is enabled! DL380 Gen10

Hello!

We have a DL380 gen10. Someone changed the iLO password and did not document the change. The iLO is configured in HighSecurity Mode.  I've tried F9-->System Configuration-->iLO Utility, but it prompts for a username and password.  I have tried the HPCONFIG but prompts for username and password. I have tried the system maintenance switch sw1, sw3 and sw5 but it still prompts for a password. I have been searching for a solution for days to no avail.

Anyone have a solution for this?

Hi @3ngin33ring ,

Try this procedure:

Resetting iLO to the factory default settings

Procedure
  1. From the System Utilities screen, select System Configuration > iLO 5 Configuration Utility > Set to factory defaults.

The iLO 5 Configuration Utility prompts you to select YES or NO.

  2. Select YES.
  3. When prompted to confirm the reset, press Enter.

iLO resets to the factory default settings. If you are managing iLO remotely, the remote console session is automatically ended.

  4. Resume the boot process:
    1. Optional: If you are managing iLO remotely, wait for the iLO reset to finish, and then start the iLO remote console.

The iLO 5 Configuration Utility screen is still open from the previous session.

    2. Press Esc until the main menu is displayed.
    3. Select Exit and Resume Boot in the main menu, and then press Enter.
    4. When prompted to confirm the request, press Enter to exit the screen and resume the boot process.

After reboot, use the default iLO account information to log in to iLO after a factory reset

iLO default credentials:

The iLO firmware is configured with a default user name, password, and DNS name. The default information is on the serial label pull tab attached to the server that contains the iLO management processor. Use these values to access iLO remotely from a network client by using a web browser.

User name - Administrator
Password - A random eight-character string
DNS name - ILOXXXXXXXXXXXX, where the X characters represent the server serial number.

IMPORTANT:
It is recommended to change the default password after you log in to iLO for the first time.
If you reset iLO to the factory default settings, use the default iLO account credentials to log in after the reset.

Thank you!

I am experiencing this too - I have an open case but am awaiting help. This doesnt help us because we cant get into the section of iLO in the BIOS to perform a factory reset - its password protected due to high security mode.

Hey a real answer is this:

you need to reset the bios password. You have to shutdown the server open it up and there is a tiny embeded mechansim that has 0-6. you need to flip it to 5. Power it on, go to bios then power it off. Then open it again turn 5 to off. If you open the panel it will tell you

Same - Resetting the BIOS password doesnt seem to clear anything in iLO.

I also pulled the CMOS battery to see if it helped and it didnt. It really seems like I am totally locked out of iLO.

This is for Gen8, I wonder if it works for Gen10 too.

The switch is located between the 2 PCI risers.

Hope this helps!

Re: Lost iLO 5 Password - High Security is enabled! DL380 Gen10

Okay - With the help of support I think i might have found the right combination to fully reset iLO with High Security Mode Enabled.

You need to do a CMOS battery pull (wait maybe 3 minutes), Flip the ilo Security Swtich (SW1) to on, insert the CMOS battery and wait for the server to get through POST.

In the case notes they said that i wouldnt be able to get in via the BIOS and would need to get in via the website, but that doesnt seem to be the case.. I was able to bootstrap iLO again.

Since the CMOS battery is being pulled, you are going to lose bios configs.

This worked for me!

It's amazing HPE support has replaced the system board on 5 of my servers due to iLO lockout. I figured there had to be a better way and finally found this post.
