Mixing SAS and SATA drives on a ML350p G8
Hi,
We have a ML350p G8 Running 2008r2
It currently has 2 x 500GB 7.2k SFF SATA Drives (655708-B21) both RAID 0
We are wanting to add 3 x 500 or 600gb drives in a raid 5 array using the same drive cage.
So we would have
Drive 1 raid 0 500gb SATA (Existing)
Drive 2 raid 0 500gb SATA (Existing)
Drive 3 raid 5 3 x 500/600gb SAS (New)
We are hoping to get SAS as we can then get 10k or even 15k drives rather than sticking with 7.2k
Are drive cages either sata or sas or can you mix drives in them ?
Also can you mix sas and sata in the same cage but using different arrays
Many thanks for you advice

Yes, SATA or SAS drives can be in the same system. The only rule is you cannot mix them in the same array.

Correct, the connector on the drive is the same for both
