P420i firmware 8.0: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive!
Goodmorning,
We just upgraded all our DL380p Gen8 (Smart Array P420i) with the latest SPP. (10-2016)
The P420i now has firmware version 8.0, and the disks (HP EG0600FBDSR) have firmware HPD6.
Now, all the LEDs on the disk are off, and the SSA reports this error on all disks:
Not Authenticated: This drive could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive. The Smart Array controller will not control the LEDs to this drive.
How can we fix this?

Re: P420i firmware 8.0: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive!
You could check if the backplane SAS expander firmware is up to date:
You should see this from ILO - storage page.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P420i firmware 8.0: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive!
No, there is no SAS Expander Card in our version of the DL380 Gen8. When I manually try to install the latest firmware for the SAS Expander, I get: The software will not be installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't apply to this system.

gen8 has the expander on the backplane, no card, by the way.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

The SAS Expander is only used in server models with 25 SFF Slots, right?
We don't have this type of backplane either. Anyways - updating offline with the newest SPP should also update the expander firmware.

Seriously, are we the only company in the world with these problems?
We have almost 30 disks without LED indication at the moment.

Re: P420i firmware 8.0: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive!
Hello,
We have same problem. But half are authenticated, and half not, on the the SAS expander.
All drives are same.
We upgraded a ML310 too, and now the drives are see as not authenticated.
I think having a bug inside this new firmware.
I go try to roll back to 7.02(B).
We got same problem after upgrading us controller's with firmware 8.0
Problem on Proliant ML350p Gen8 (Smart Array P420i) WITH ORIGINAL HP TRAY !
Problem on Proliant ML310e Gen8 (Smart Array P222) WITH ORIGINAL HP TRAY !
Best Regards
