I'm trying to locate a cable I could use to connect a P430 card to an 8-bay SFF drive cage in my ML350p. The official HPE part numbers for the cable are 725675-B21 and 738379-001. This cable is nearly impossible to find except for a few instances where it is over $150.
What makes this cable so special and expensive? Is it simply the length? Could I potentiall use one of the other cables in some way?
Thanks!
Boris

Re: P430 SAS cable to 8-bay SFF cage - options?
Thanks for the link, @mysy!
Unfortunately, I cannot understand anything on that page. It looks like it is in Japanese.
Are these cable kind of generic? I mean, can I search for something other than the HPE part number for the ML350p G8 and get the same basic cable?

Re: P430 SAS cable to 8-bay SFF cage - options?
Taobao is CHINA version ebay platform , it have many sales provide server parts and cables.
This P430/P440,P830 P840 flat miniSAS interface I only see in those card from Gen9 server. The physical interface is standard SCSI RCP 68POS , it use 68pin as double as SFF 8087 MINISAS interface. LSI 9300 я╝И3008я╝Йuse MINISAS HD interface as LSI 12Gbps card.
you could search 68pin sas cable for common use or HPE parts number for specially module.

Re: P430 SAS cable to 8-bay SFF cage - options?
Hi @mysy !
Thanks again for another reply!
I saw the Yen symbol for the purchase price and got confused. Sorry for my confusion.
Your post had a lot of good technical information and it helped me expand my search. If these cables are standard then my search results have improved. From eBay :
68 PIN TO DUAL MINI SAS SFF-8087 CABLE
Y type Mini SAS line P/N: 727452-001; 754375-001
Y type Mini-SAS line 780mm 727453-001 754375-001
The HP cables I found on accident. I like the last HP cable best because it is long. My ML350p feels deep.
Which would you recommend?

Re: P430 SAS cable to 8-bay SFF cage - options?
Hello Boris,
725675-B21 is still preferred, anyway
Please have a look P430 quickspecs for all cable options for this controller.
HPE Cable Options Internal SAS Cables for P430
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04111382
(Few of them are mentioned here as per the last post)
However i believe any of these SAS double wide cable should work. considering suffient length to reach the backplane..
Regards,
Sudhir

Re: P430 SAS cable to 8-bay SFF cage - options?
Hi @sudhirsingh !
Thanks for the reply!
I would love to get the preferred cable, 725675-B21, but that cable is practically nowhere to be found. Twice I tried to order from two different online stores and both times the ordered was canceled. The cable was not in stock even though their webstore said it was. One store was going to charge me $38 and the other $68. I see other stores where the cable is selling for $144 and higher. That's too much for a cable unless it is made from gold and platinum ... or somehow gives me immortality.
Ok, I will try one of the other cables and see how it works. Wish me luck!!

SolutionI'm replying to my own post here with an update.
About a month ago I ordered a cable that goes by either part number 727451-001 or part number 754375-001 from a Chinese seller on eBay. It finally arrived!
I connected one end cable to my P430 cotroller and the two mini-SAS connectors to the SFF cage. The mini-SAS connectors are labeled P2 and P3 and the SFF cage connectors are labeled Ch A and Ch B. I connected P2 to Ch A and P3 to Ch B. Then I inserted one 146GB drive into the cage.
Viola!
During POST the G8 server recognized my P430 card and said I didn't have any configured drives. After booting to my desktop I used the Smart Array Controller to configure one array using that single 146 GB drive.
Viola again!
The drive was recognized and it all seems to work!
Thankfully that cable cost only $10 vs $30 or $100!
The cable is also super long! I had no problems connecting the card in the back of the server to the SFF cage in the front of the server.
