PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
I have a Startech PCIe USB Card ( PEXUSB3S4V) which is working fine together with the ML 350 G8, but not the G9.After the boot i does not see it as a PCI Device, BIOS tells me that the slot is not in use.
I treid different PCIe slotst without success, i have also installed the latest bios (Version:2.30_09-12-2016 (A) (25 Oct 2016) ). Had anyone similar issues?

Re: PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
OK, slots 5-9 can only be used if a second CPU is installed.
However, the slots have different speeds (not an issue for your card) and different specs (slot 5 is PCIe 2.0 only, hence less power for this slot).
Does this card need external power? Maybe optional only.
I found this card has updatable firmware (vendor website) - worth to try?
Sorry, I don't have an idea ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
Hi,
thanks, yes it have an optional external power so i will test with it. But when i plug in a mouse its blink for a second so i think the card itself powered correctly.
The funny thing is that when is just put it in the ML 350 G8 it works like a charm, so i think it can be a BIOS incomplatipility a something like that :(
But i will try update the card firmware also.
Thank you for your time & advice!

Re: PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
The server has 5x USB2.0 and 3x USB3.0 built-in, but sometimes this is obviously not enough?
In another quickspec for another product I found this hint:
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends the following controller for a user who currently only has USB 2.0: Startech 2 port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 card.
So I assume it should working ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
Yes sadly we do need this much USB (you know touch monitors everywhere :) ), but i didnt expected to that this coudl be an issue, i mean it's only a PCIe USB card...
Maybe we need to switch to a HUB or try another card. I will experiment more with this.

Re: PCIe USB Card fails with ML350 G9 but works fine with ML350 G8
Last question: How many power supplies are installed?
I would try if this card is working if you remove some other cards temporarily.
(I found this hint about graphics cards:
To install a third 150W GPU, a third power supply must be installed. The server supports up to four graphic
cards, install graphic card options in PCIe slots 1, 3, 6, or 8.)
These slots are the 16x slots.
If you have already 3 or 4 power supplies, there must still be another reason.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I have 2 PSU installed, so i will test it.
I can remove temporarly every other card and see what happens.
