Problems with memory upgrade on ProLiant DL380 Gen10
Hello, I have a server ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4114 CPU @ 2.20GHz with 2 memory bank of 32 GB for each one so 64GB of RAM in total. One of them is produced by Samsung and the other one by SK hynix.
I need to upgrade the memory to 128GB so I bought a new only bank of memory of 64GB (produced by Samsung) and I installed physically on the server but the memory has not been recognized from the host and it shows that are only 64GB of available memory.
I will attach here the tags of each memory component if it can be helpful:
SK hynix 32GB: HMA84GR7AFR4N
Samsung 32GB: M393A4K40CB2
Samsung 64GB: M393A8G40MB2
First tried this configuration: 1st configuration image
Then tried this configuration: 2nd configuration image
How can I identify and troubleshoot the problem?
Thank you so much in advance for any helps.

Re: Problems with memory upgrade on ProLiant DL380 Gen10
Hello,
thank you so much for your reply.
I already used the configuration indicated for 3 DIMMs but without success.
Now the server uses the configuration for 2 DIMMs, so it takes slot 8 and 10 with 32 GB for each one. So I tried to add a new memory module of 64 GB on 12th slot but it has not recognized.
All the 3 modules are RDIMM type so they are all of the same type as the documentation require. On the documentation is not mentioned that different density modules are not supported.

Re: Problems with memory upgrade on ProLiant DL380 Gen10
Hi,
Have you tried the 64GB module as a single DIMM configuration, this is just to check if the module is good.
Thank You!

Re: Problems with memory upgrade on ProLiant DL380 Gen10
Hello,
no, I do not tested it as single module but I will check it, thank you!
The fact that 2 modules are 32GB density and the new one is 64GB density, do you think could be a problem?
Thanks

The fact that 2 modules are 32GB density and the new one is 64GB density, do you think could be a problem?
That in itself should not be an issue, since they all appear to be the same type (registered) and rank (2Rx4). However, by having an unbalanced configuration (3 DIMMs), your memory performance will be sub-optimal. IMHO, a better 128GB configuration would be to add two more 32GB DIMMs instead of just one 64GB DIMM -- see:
