Processor Upgrade on DL360p Gen8
We have a cluster of ProLiant DL360p Gen8 servers with the Xeon E5-2640 (6-core) processors and are thinking about upgrading the processors. In looking around I noted that there are are other v1 processors with 8-cores that would probably work well in our environment. Specifically, I am thinking about the Xeon E5-2665 or Xeon E5-2670 processors (both v1).
My questions are 1) am I correct in thinking that these would be direct replacements? and 2) would I need to upgrade the 460W power supplies to either the 500W or 750W units as the processors have a slightly higher power consumption (95W vs 115W).
We had thought about upgrading to the v2 processors but those are still a bit pricey and I don't know that we would get that much better performance.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
