ProLaint DL380 issue with CD drive reading the disc

I am setting up the Prolaint DL380 server with Windows 2000 Server. After installing the OS plus the SP4, the CD drive decided not to work. No matter what disc I put, I keeps asking to insert the disc into the drive. The drive try opens fine, it spins also. I noticed whenever there is a disc in the drive, the light will start to blink constantly. I went to DOS to tried to pull up the drive, but it said "device not ready". Please help. Thank you.

How are replacing the driver since you have checked with different media's. Or try some cleaning cd in your drive.

Re: ProLaint DL380 issue with CD drive reading the disc

Try booting from a CD such as Smartstart. If it attempts to read the disk but fails then your drive has probably developed a fault or is dirty inside.

Have you tried different CD's in the drive. Are you using CDR's or CDRW's ? Try some original retail CD's to see if it reads them. If it does, then it's probably the disks that are faulty or the drive may be fussy with a certain brand of CDR or CDRW which can happen sometimes.

It could be that it has an intermittent fault and may need to be replaced.
