Proliant 800 6/350

I've just gotten my hands on this server and want to use it as a home server.

Of course when I got it, there was no RAM in it. And I don't have any ECC SIMMs laying around.

Since I'm not sure if this box actually work, I don't want to spend $200 on memory that I won't be able to use.

I've tried a unbuffered 128 MB SDRAM in it, and all I get is a blinking CD-ROM drive. No output on screen, and numlock/capslock isn't toggable. No blinks on SCSI light and no 'beeps' from the box.

Is there anything I can do to be close to certain that the machine is working before I spend my hardearned bucks on expensive memory cards?

Re: Proliant 800 6/350

Hi,

We need to have the exact memory to boot up the box.

Pentium Pro models - All Standard memory is EDO, ECC unbuffered DIMMs.
Pentium II & III modulus - All Standard memory must be ECC SDRAM DIMMs.
1 DIMM per Bank, with four maximum DIMM sockets in both Pentium Pro and Pentium II models

Use only 32MB, 64MB, 128MB or 256MB 100 MHz Registered SDRAM DIMMs.

Where as in current senario i still suggest to try this just for checking.

1)Under switch setting make the 4th one on. In this you keyboard won't work and you might get display.

2)Remove memory from server then boot it will give 2 short beeps, help us to define board working but memory not present.

Re: Proliant 800 6/350

Just tried the suggestions.

1) No video still
2) No beeps when starting without memory

Do we now assume something is broken?
