Proliant DL370G6 Indicators Showing Inaccurately
A customer has the following issue:
"When hot adding a hard drive to this server, the array diagnostic utility picks up the drive, but when I click on the drive, the blue indicator that is supposed to light up the drive, lights up the bay next to it. For example, if I add a hard drive to the middle cage in the top slot, the top slot on the right cage will light up, even though it's empty.
I've replaced all cables, backplanes, SAS Expander and the RAID controller. I've had a HP tech out and he was unable to solve the problem as well... Server is Configured with 2 x 6Bay Cages and 1 x 2Bay Cage."
He provided me with additional information; the problem can be seen in the following video:

When asked what was the resolution by HP. His response was, "Regarding a resolution, there really wasn't one. At this time, the workaround is that I have to take the server down to install any hard drives. The thing that bothers me the most, is that running into a problem like this has just decreased my confidence level and leaves me wondering... Is there anything else that may pop-up that I haven't caught yet?"
Hopefully one of the server experts available today can address this issue by providing a more satisfying solution so that the customer doesn't have to take down his DL370G6 servers when he wants to install hard drives.
