ProLIant DL380p Gen8 P420i. Not reading hard drives

Hello.

ProLIant DL380p Gen8 Servers equipped with P420i controller. Problem as follows; I bought a large quantity of HP Seagate ST450MP0035 779246-002 450-GB 15K 2.5 inch drives. BUT when i connect them, the server shows 0 drives.

Where does it show 0 drives? in the OS, in the array config utility?  Is the controller connected to the drive backplane? Drives new or used? You sure the drives are good?

The Drives are new, on boot it shows 0. When I open raid config, (F8) It shows 0 drives attached. I have tested the same slots with older drivers, the server see's them attached. I bought 9 drives, all 0 drives it does not see. Could it be something to do with block size being 520? (I was told this when i bought the drives)

yes, i am quite sure this is the reason. these drives are formatted for special disk arrays.

Hope this helps!

Any idea how to connect a SAS drive to USB. Inorder format them I would need to connect them somehow to a computer to change the block size.

you may try to switch the controller into HBA mode.

Hope this helps!
