Proliant fails to boot Fedora 38 install

Hi, I'm attempting to install Fedora-Server-netinst-x86_64-38-1.6.iso on a Proliant E3-1240 hosted by One Provider (oneprovider.com) through an IPMI HTML5 console and have been unsuccessful. I've tried connecting a "virtual DVD" and linking it to an image located at one of their mirrors. I've also tried connecting to the HTML5 console "local media" and uploading it from my desktop.

The server already has a version of RockyLinux on it, which is fully supported by the provider. Fedora is only able to be installed via IPMI.

I was able to make progress with the "image file" method, but the installer would eventually time out because it uploaded too slowly (I don't believe because of my Internet connection).

Installing from a virtual DVD fails with:

What does this mean? I've seen this error when searching from many years ago, but also not typically associated with installing.

Does anyone have any recent Fedora installed on their Proliant?

Here's more details on the server itself

Re: Proliant fails to boot Fedora 38 install

Hi,

I am guessing the server is a Gen9 model.  Make sure the Fedora is compatible with the server model.

Hello,

Please refer the quickspecs of the Server for compatible OS.

Re: Proliant fails to boot Fedora 38 install

Hi, thanks for your help. However, I've tried using the latest version of Fedora as well as ones that were released around the same time as the server itself, and neither work.

I'm thinking the issue is related to the HTML5 and Java console refresh rates being so slow that the Fedora graphical install just times out and quits.

All of the available distros to install are always done in a headless manner - probably booting from PXE or some other stored network method. Do you know how to boot Fedora from PXE or do a network install?

I find it so hard to believe that installing Fedora on this server would be so difficult and prone to errors. I've actually also tried other Linux distro ISO images, and they are also just skipped.

Hi,

From HPE I was unable to find documentation, you may have to check with Fedora.

Thank You!
