ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

Hello,

i have bought 4x 8GB Sticks of RAM for my Proliant ML350 G5.

I know quickspecks says that it will support max of 32GB RAM.

But on this site it says it will support 64GB because of the new 4 and 8GB DDR2 Modules.

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00726306&sp4ts.oid=1121586

"Maximum memory capacities for all AMP modes will increase with the availability of 4 GB and 8 GB FBDIMMs, including a maximum of 64 GB in Advanced ECC mode."

On eBay they sell ML350 Servers with 64GB RAM.

So my problem is the following:

I put the 32GB RAM sticks in and added 4x 4GB sticks, now it will show 49XXXMB RAM in BIOS but at startup it only shows 32GB.

So how can i fix this? I already installed newest BIOS.

Take a look on page 34 of the quickspecs. Ensure that the memory modules of same size are installed in the same bank. And there is a rule about bank A but I think you already use more than the bank A.

Also check with RBSU that you don't have any online sparing configured.

Hello,

i tryed following configurations: (P/N = Part Number (P/Ns are the same on memory, so i only writed it once))

DIMM 2B : 8192 MB 667 MHz 398709-071 / Micron
DIMM 3C : 4096 MB 667 MHz 398708-061 / Hynix

Re: ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

Try turning off advanced ECC and use (simple) ECC. I think in Advanced ECC an entire chip in a memory module is used as parity (it's actually more complicated than that but...) and therefore you lose some of the memory capacity.

Also how many CPUs do you have?

Re: ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

Ii dont know how i can disable it, i only can select Advanced ECC Support or Online Spare ECC Support.

I have 2x Xeon E5420

Re: ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

Try installing ONLY the 8GB modules in 1A, 5A, 2B, 6B. If the server sees all 32GB then it has no problem with them. If it sees only 16GB then it has a problem with the 8GB modules.

Re: ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

I already tryed that, works fine. I now accepted that i wont work with 48GB. I will buy a new Server instead, its better for the future.
