"SSD Over Provisioning Optimization" -- how long does it take?
Question summary: How long does 'SSD Over Provisioning Optimization' really take?
Background: I'm setting up some new servers with large disk arrays -- 6 x 1.6TB SSDs. I want all my storage in one big raid10.
So... I've gone to hpssa during startup, and run this command:
=> ctrl slot=0 create type=ld drives=1I:1:1,1I:1:2,1I:1:3,1I:1:4,2I:1:5,2I:1:6 raid=10
That gets me a warning:
"SSD Over Provisioning Optimization will be performed on the physical drives in this array. This process may take a long time and cause this application to appear unresponsive. Continue? (y/n)"
The aren't kidding about appearing unresponsive! I'm 8+ hours in with no evidence of progress. Can anyone advise about how long this is likely to take? 10 hours? 100? 1000?

Re: "SSD Over Provisioning Optimization" -- how long does it take?
Hi,
Could anyone tell me how long it has taken them please?
I have just set up a Raid 0 with 8 x 200gb Enterprise SSD's.
I am over 36 hours in and still got solid white lights and flashing green on all the caddies.
No sign in the Smart Storage manager it is actually doing anything or any progress report if it is.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
