Restarting hpasm on Red Hat during office hours

Two days ago, one of our production servers crashed due to 'service hpasm restart' on a HP ProLiant DL585 G2 running RHEL4U4. (Kernel oops/kernel panic while running 'rmmod hp_ilo')

Investigation is done via a support call. What I'd like to know is whether restarting hpasm is supposed to be production stable. Are there any (written or not) guidelines for restarting the tools?
