RomPaq USB Key Flash Update Hangs - DL160 G5
Hi
I am trying to update the BMC firmware for a HP DL160 G5 server from 3.01 to the most current version but the HP ROMPaq USB Key hangs at the FreeDOS splash screen. The BIOS version ID is 12 with a date of 7/27/2009. Within the BIOS, the 16GB Corsair usb drive is recognized as the first drive to boot from. I have spent several days trying to figure out why booting with this USB Flash drive hangs. The most current SmartStart DVD's will not work with this server model. The fans are running at full speed and is driving the Charter school Principal crazy. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: RomPaq USB Key Flash Update Hangs - DL160 G5
Hello, I don't know whether it's too late for you, but I had the same problem. Inserting the 3.20 ROMPaq USB hung at the "Loading FreeDOS" message.
In the end the following solution worked for me:
1. I purchased a 4GB USB key (some systems struggle to format large FAT32 drives on USB).
2. I downloaded the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197) and created a bootable USB from Windows 98 system files (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=196).
3. I copied the contents of the ROMPaq Flat Files folder to a folder on the USB.
4. I rebooted, booted to the DOS prompt, then ran ROMPAQ.exe from the folder on the USB.

I made a bootable USB win98. I ran after rompaq.exe. But it's stuck loading rompaq.exe.
