Solaris on DL585 G7

Anyone installed Solaris x86 OS on a DL585 G7? It isnt listed in the support matrix so maybe its a no starter but I was wondering if anyone here has done it. I have been trying with update 8 (09/10) but it panics in the second phase on the pci express bus.

Thanks.

Hi MKeller999!
Solaris 10 for x86 Systems is Supported on DL585 G7.
Could you give the exact error?
If you have any PCI cards installed, could you try removing those card(s) and check if installation goes further?

Cheers!

Isn't Solaris on the Smart Start DVD?

The issue is with the netzen 375i nic - its poison on this platform - is HP planning to provide a driver.

Thanks.

If a NIC got in my way of upgrading, I would look at replacing it. What NIC is similar that works with Solaris 10?

Looks like its supported under SUSE SLES 9 and 10.

It would say you have two options to move forward, replace the NIC or switch to a supproted Linux/Unix OS.

Re: Solaris on DL585 G7

I was able to install by disabling the nic in bios - the last driver HP released for this nic on 585 was in 4/10 - for G6. Pulling the nic out isnt an issue - seems the support for 585/G7 on Solaris is weak - moving redhat or something else isnt practial right now.

Thanks.

Re: Solaris on DL585 G7

I understand. Solaris requires special hardware to be fully supported. I was going to do Solaris with Checkpoint. I forget the server they were going to sell us with it. It was designed for Solaris.

Disabling it is an option. Just mark on the side of the server not to enable it. Make sure when you do firmware upgrades, you redisable it. Sometimes it enables hardware.
