T1500 G3 UPS Power Manager vs. Power Protector

Just bought a new ML110 G7 server and a T1500 G3 UPS to go with it.  In looking at the software for the UPS I see a "Power Manager" and a "Power Protector".  Both seem to have a virtually identical description and are two different distinct pieces of software (they are listed separately with separate version updates and downloads on the HP website), but I can not determine what the difference is, whether I should one instead of the other, or if I need both for some reason.

Which one do I need and why?  What's the difference between the two?

Thank you.

Re: T1500 G3 UPS Power Manager vs. Power Protector

Hi,

In terms of functionality both HP Power Manager and HP Power Protector are similar.

The only difference is the hardware supported by both the software.

HP Power Manager also supports legacy products and Power Protector is newly released software.

HP Power Protector Software replaces HP Power Manager on new UPS. So you may download HP Power Protector for the T1500 G3 UPS.

You may find it in below link:

HP Power Protector supports below hardware.

Re: T1500 G3 UPS Power Manager vs. Power Protector

I hope you don't mind if I ask a question on this thread.

we're thinking of buying an R7000 and wonder how to manage the shutdown of our systems in the event of a power failure.

Q. what does (Client mode only) mean for HP Power Protector?

Q. is there a better way of managing server shutdowns ?

thanks
