Transfering A Drive Array

I am currently running a Proliant ML530 G1 with a Smart Array 5300 controller. Attached to the controller are 8 x 18 GB drives.

I am looking to upgrade the disks to 6 x 72 GB but I am not that keen on doing it if it involves rebuilding the server.

Is it possible to swap the drives one by one and then expand the raid when 6 x 72GB's are in?

Failing this would it be possible to use Norton Ghost or similar to transfer the whole of the system partition to a newly created drive array?

Re: Transfering A Drive Array

I would replace one drive ata a time with the 72GB's.

Once all six have been done expand the array to encompass the available space.

Then use DIskPart or similar to expand the OS logical partitions as required.

John there is no option for to downgrade number of drives? If your array(s) designed with 8 you need 8 or restore data to newly created array with 6 drives.
