Upgrading a HP DL 180 G6 from 8 Bay to 12 Bay

Hello everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone knows if you need to swap out the entire front drive cage when upgrading a HP DL 180G6 from the 8 Bay LFF to the 12 Bay variant. 

The drive cages in the services and maintenance manual for 8 and 12 bays look almost the same.  Is it possible to pop out the covers and the optical drive slot on the 8 bay and throw in a 12 bay backplane and be good to go?

Or does upgrading this server in this manner require and entirely new front drive cage?

Hi m8, 

As I am aware if you ordered originally as 8Bays chasiss most probably it will have only 8 HDD slots and the backplane. If you want to connnect all 12 dirves you would need item 490375-001.
