WARNING: SmartArray 6400 bios (version 2.26)

There is a serious flaw in the Smart Array 6400 Online ROM Flash Component for Linux.

If you load it from the "Online version" the batteries will be DISCHAGED or will be "claimed" as discharged and therefore your cache will be diabled!

DO NOT USE THE ONLINE VERSION.

Use the offline version only!

Re: WARNING: SmartArray 6400 bios (version 2.26)

I have tried sending e-mail and over the phone! No joy! They just refuse to remove it from their site. You may not be able to directly navigate to it... but it is still there and if you got the Customer Advisory Notice via E-mail... you can still get it!
Enjoy!

It looks like the cache is disabled until the batteries are charged again. What's the problem with this?

Re: WARNING: SmartArray 6400 bios (version 2.26)

The online version of the bios update fails and corrupts the install.

To fix it, you need to use a SmartStart CD (I used version 6.40) and a diskette of the 2.26 bios. You need to "use suplemental disk" and then select "Custom" and select the Allow for forcing the bios to overwite.

It takes a few hours to re-charge the batteries. I let it run for 24 hours before I looked at it again.
Enjoy!

Re: WARNING: SmartArray 6400 bios (version 2.26)

Well:

HP released Customer Advisory EX04528_CW01 stating that the Battery Messages are "Erronious" and a few methods of saving yourself from failed flash messages.

Here is the advisory for you all to read:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_EX040528_CW01&printver=true

Once again, they are re-releasing the "On-Line" version of the bios which caused the error in the first place.

So Beforwarned that if you use it you are asking for trouble. Use the "Offline" version via SmartStart and save yourself the heartache.
Enjoy!
