2nd Processor not working on Proliant 2500 with Windows 2003 Enterprise Installed

I have just installed windows 2003 on a Proliant 2500, I have installed the SmartStart updates to the server. However I now have an issue that the server is only recognising one processor, I have gone through device manager and it is already set to a mps multiprocessor pc. Is there any fixes, patches or can anyone help me out with my little problem, I do realise that the 2500 is old technology and there is no support for them but i really want to get this box working with 2 processors. Thanks in advance.

You need to configure the smartstart bios / system rom (whatever you want to call it) to use Windows 2000 Server.

Did you force 2003 to use MPS multiprocessor HAL? If so, ensure the OS is set to 2000 server in the ROM/BIOS and perform a repair/upgrade of 2003 server.

I had the same problem with my ProLaint 6500!

Re: 2nd Processor not working on Proliant 2500 with Windows 2003 Enterprise Installed

Search for similar threads with the 5000 - It would seem that Windows 2003 Server does not support these older model 'legacy' processors - so it's deal with single processor or downgrade to Windows 2000 Advanced Server. There is a microsoft bulletin that identifies which processors will not work (by way of the system properties processor details)
