My Current Enviroment:
1.HP Proliant ML370 G3
2.Running Raid 5 with 3 hardisk (36.4GB each), using SMART ARRAY
642 Controller
3.HP Array config utility 17.15.19.0
4.Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
5.Hardisk slots available =3, Used=3, total=6
Question:
1. Can i create 2 different sets of RAID using a single SMART
ARRAY 642 Controller
(ie: logical drive 1 RAID 5 with 3x36.4GB hardisk
logical drive 2 Raid 5 with 3x72GB hardisk )
2.If no.1 is possible, do i need any other hardware or devices to
implement it. (e.g Cables)
3.is it as simple as adding the 3 new hardisk into the 3
available slots and create a new RAID 5 via HP Array
configuration utility 17.15.19.0.
4.If no.2 is posibble, will data on the existing hardisk affected?

Re: can i create 2 differents sets of RAID using a single SMART ARRAY 642 Controller
Hello Harold,
1.Can i create 2 different sets of RAID using a single SMART ARRAY 642 Controller?
Yes you can
2.If no.1 is possible, do i need any other hardware or devices to implement it. (e.g Cables)?
No you don't need additional hardware
3.is it as simple as adding the 3 new hardisk into the 3 available slots and create a new RAID 5 via HP Array configuration utility 17.15.19.0.
Yes its as simple as that.
Few better practices before implementing the raid:
a.Update all firmwares

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24879.html
b.Install latest PSP

c.After rebooting the server once the above mentioned is installed, add the new 72Gb*3 disks.
d.Create new array Array B.
e.Select Array B,choose the raid level and create a new logical volume Volume B.
