Compaq Proliant 1600R - upgrade to Dual CPU

I am trying to make use of two Proliant 1600R that each have a single PIII 500MHz CPU by combining parts to make a single dual processor system. Problem is, after moving over the CPU and Voltage regulator from one to the other, I am getting an error.

It sees both CPUs and reports them as 500Mhz processors, then says there is a configuration error. I have been looking all over the inside panels for any other jumpers or switches that would instruct that the system is now a dual processor system, yet I cannot find anything. I do not have a Proliant 1600R manual on hand either. Can any explain what I have missed on this upgrade?

Also, if you have the manual in .pdf format, please attach to your answer.

Thanks.

If you cannot find jumper settings on the panel you removed or some of the other ones then you may have to run the system configuration from a SmartStart CD or configuration floppy set.
Good Luck.

You will have to run the configuration from floppies or a SmartStart CD. This will find the new change and set the system to see both.
You can find your manual at this url:

Good Luck.

Re: Compaq Proliant 1600R - upgrade to Dual CPU

Thanks.

I did find that these steps were necessary and did find a Smart Start CD (ver 4.1) amongst some old boxes in another room.

I had no luck downloading a newer version or even 5.5, thanks to our National Data Center blocking ftp.

By the way, is there any reason I should use ver 5.5 over 4.1?

The system is up and working, but if there is a reason to upgrade, then I will postpone any further configurations until upgraded.

Thanks again.

I am sure the old version is okay. I used 4.9 for my 3000r.
Glad to know that you had success.

Your System I/O board should be

Your Processor board should be
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/showphoto?partnumber=313622-001
Find jumpers and set them as:
SW1 position should be (from 1 to 4) OFF ON ON ON
SW2 Position (1, 2) OFF OFF

For 500 PIII PPM
