Formatting 80gb drive
I have purchased a Proliant Server model ML110 and I have been attempting to install MS Terminal Server. I have been running the formatting step of the installation since 6pm yesterday. I don't know what is wrong with the install and why it is taking it so long.
I have stopped adn restarted the process a few times and I right now I'm at 53% of the formatting phase and this again has been running since yesterday.
Any ideal of what I'm doing wrong.

Re: Formatting 80gb drive
Hi Quinton:
is this the HP ATA drive that came with that server.
- and what controller are you using in that server.
This server comes with these controllers.
HP Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter (SCSI Models)
Integrated Dual Channel Ultra ATA-133 IDE (ATA Models)
4 port SATA RAID controller (SATA Model)
- where is the drive connected.
- are you doing the formate from windows boot disk like DOS. Low level Formate.
- Check to make sure that the jumper on that Harddrive is set to CS (cable select)
- Try different format utilities.
- Possible could be bad cabling or bad hard drive.
- Try the 2nd ATA channel on the board.
-
- If you continue to have problems;
Please post exact details on how you are doing the format and also the Drive model number and what controller it connects to.
Let me know how it goes.
Best regards,
Tarek.

Re: Formatting 80gb drive
When I run into this problem I run FDISK and delete all portions fron the drive and start over with fresh portions then format and it works alot better.

Re: Formatting 80gb drive
I don't think you are doing anything wrong. When I got my 40gb drive it took along time to do the initial format on it. Not sure how long as I started it one day and when I checked back the next it was done. But I do know it took more than 12 hours. A few friends have told me the same thing with theirs.
