HP Proliant ML110 - will not boot, no fan, no screen - removing CMOS battery helps

I recently set up an HP Proliant ML110 Gen 5 Server, with Windows 2003 Server OS.

When I shut the thing off and then try to turn it back on it won’t start.

No fan nothing. The lights inside are blinking though.

Then if I remove the CMOS battery and then install it again, the whole thing starts up like normal.

Half way through the boot up I get an error message that my CMOS battery failed and I reset the clock.

Then it goes on and boots normally.

When I get all the way to Windows and shut it down again, it won’t start until I remove the battery again.

It is a work around, but I don’t want to deliver a server to my customer with that kind of startup procedure.
