LH4r Processor Upgrades

HIya,

I have four LH4r servers which have dual PII 400 XEON MHz Processors. I know I can get these to at least PIII 500 XEON's however I also know you can get PIII 700 XEON LH4r servers. Are these the same units or will the motherboard be different ??? IE can i stick PIII 700 XEON into my current LH4r units ?

Thanks

Ed

Re: LH4r Processor Upgrades

hi, there is 2 different motherboards for the lh4's
One only goes upto the xeon650's and the later ones will work upto the xeon700's
You will need to check the part number on the board.
At the very least you can go upto the 650 though, you can check the switches on the board aswell if you look at the part number.

Re: LH4r Processor Upgrades

Hiya,

Thanks for the reply. On the board it only stats up to 550MHz on the dip switches ?? Or is it just not printed for higher ?

Thanks

Re: LH4r Processor Upgrades

sorry ed,

Just checked and the D6970-6xxxx board does only go upto 550. The d7014-6xxxx board does the 750mhz processors.
(the memorys not as good as it used to be)
There was a jump from 550 upto 700
By the sounds of it you can only go upto the 550Mhz with 2mb cache.
These are the proper hp part numbers for the upgrade. You should get a VRM with these aswell as each processor need one.

D8529A 550 with 512k cache
D8530A 550 with 1mb cache
D8531A 550 with 2mb cache
