M2 SSD via PCIe - can't boot - Micro Gen8

Hello,

I wanted to upgrade my ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 for virtualization - so the host system on a high performance storage (Corsair Force MP510 480 GB NVMe PCIe, connected by EZDIY-FAB NVME PCIe Adapter) and the database on the storage array.

But I can't boot from the NVMe storage. OS installation works fine. In the BIOS it shows "other PCI storage device".

Is there a setting or something I can do to boot from the NVMe storage?

Hello,

PCI based NVMe will not have any option to boot the server.

Only onboard and SA controller have the boot option or server boots with an only onboard controller or SA controller.

Thank you for your answer, I solved it by using a SATA SSD drive as operating system, guest on the NVMe drive.

The other option would be a flash drive or SD card with GRUB as boot device, but somehow I wasn't able configure GRUB correctly.
