Microserver RAID1 Logical Disk appears as 2 disks in Windows 2012R2?

I have a Gen7 Microserver with onboard RAID.

I have 1 SSD as a single drive for the OS (with Windows 2012 R2)

I have 2 x 4TB Seagate NAS disks, that I turned into a single RAID 1 Logical Disk.  As in:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/mostViewedDisplay?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_efb5c0793523e51970c8fa22b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03004814-1%257CdocLocale%253Den_US&javax.portlet.tpst=efb5c0793523e51970c8fa22b053ce01&sp4ts.oid=4248009&ac.admitted=138...

I expected when going into the OS disk manager I would see my SSD as one disk, and to see a single disk of 4TB that should be the Logical disk I made from the Hardware RAID.  However I see the two 4TB disks as though I hadden't done anthing on the RAID controller?

Why?  Surely I should just see the two disks as one logical disk in the OS?

The controller in this system isn't a true hardware based RAID controller. It requires a driver for the RAID function. It doesn't appear a driver has been released for Windows 2012 yet

You need the AMD SB7xx/SB8xx Chipset SATA RAID Driver

I see it listed for 2008 R2

Re: Microserver RAID1 Logical Disk appears as 2 disks in Windows 2012R2?

I got the same issue while installing Windows 2012 R2

The mirrors created disappear and show all physical disks in the list

It won't happen when I try to install win 7 or win 2008 R2. It functions properly and logical disk appear as those created in onboard Raid controller.

Would HP investigate extra raid drivers is required to be loaded for new Windows or RAID function being discard by Microsoft?

HP just released the latest bios to support the installation of Win 2012 R2, so I'm asumming the onboard RAID function should work well too.

Hi,

Just hit exact same problem. Windows 2012 Server Standard.

Drivers report that they are latest from AMD.

Did you get any updates from HP?

Many Thanks

I don't think AMD ever released drivers for Server 2012. The last driver I can find is for 2008 R2.  HP never offered RAID drivers for this controller, the support pages have always pointed to AMD for this driver.  The current link is broken, but I found this

AMD SB7xx/SB8xx Chipset Windows® Server 2008 and Windows® Server 2008 R2 64-bit SATA RAID Driver

Re: Microserver RAID1 Logical Disk appears as 2 disks in Windows 2012R2?

Thanks for the quick reply Jimmy,

And for the Link.

I went ahead and used an old license of 2008 R2. The Setup detected the RAID disk instantly.

As you've stated HP may have updated support for 2012 but given this chipset is older now and even seen as "legacy" by AMD, I can't see it ever being updated by them.

Kind Regards
