NC7761 nic dropping out

Ive got an old ML350G4 with a single onboard NC7761 nic. It keeps dropping off the network and when i go to the server i can ping my own address but nothing else - no def gw etc, likewise nothing else can ping the server.

If i open HP NCU and go to Diags and hit Run Tests button it seems to reset the nic so it goes disconnected, then reconnects and starts responding again.

Ive got the latest firmware, windows drivers and bios on the box and windows updates etc, have replced cables and switch port but still doing it every 2 or 3 days?????
