I am experiencing problems with a HP StorageWorks DAT 72 internal USB tape drive (AE307AT) :
The HP DAT 72 is firstly detected when plugging USB on a new Proliant ML150 G3 (Windows Server 2003 R2).
Then after a few backups, it is not detected anymore : LTT doesn’t recognize hardware anymore, neither Windows device manager.
We have changed the tape drive 2 times and also HP cartridges: it’s the same, firstly detected then not, after a few backups. All firmware and drivers are updated with the most recent from HP. No problem with others USB devices. Rq: HP Data Protector Errors : first 1400 & 1401 (“Insert compatible media”) and then “Tape drive not detected”.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem HP DAT 72 internal USB not detected on Proliant ML150 G3 (WIN Server 2003 R2)
USB problems are often caused by randomly inserting them into different USB ports.
Use the following Microsoft KB article to clean out the 'phantom' devices:

Re: Problem HP DAT 72 internal USB not detected on Proliant ML150 G3 (WIN Server 2003 R2)
Excuse my bad english.
Yes, the tape drive's USB cable has been inserted into more than one USB port on the server (internal and external) : but every time it's the same thing : firstly recognised in L&TT and in Device Manager, then not recognised in L&TT and error in Device Manager.
The most recent Windows driver (provided by HP) has been installed and re-installed : always the same.
We can see the device in Windows Device manager (error), so it seems not to be a problem of Phantom device...
Any other available Windows driver for this tape drive HP StorageWorks DAT 72 USB (AE307AT) for Windows Server 2003 R2 ?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem HP DAT 72 internal USB not detected on Proliant ML150 G3 (WIN Server 2003 R2)
I have unchecked "Allow The Computer To Turn Off This Device To Save Power" on every USB Root Hub.
Last version of L&TT (v.4.2) and utilities was installed (Tape drive not detected).
In device Manager : "HP USB Mass Storage Device" was still in error ("This device cannot start - code 10"). Trying to reinstall Windows driver (the last one on hp.com) does not change anything ("last driver already installed").
When changing USB Port, device is reinstalled, but now in device manager it's "Unknown device". Trying again to remove and reinstall Windows driver does not change anything.
It's the same when Rebooting the server.
The Windows Server 2003 driver provided by HP seems not to be compatible with Proliant ML 150...
Any suggestions ?
Thanks for your help.

Is the tape drive on a UPS?
