tc2120 Memory upgrade

Hello,

I am going to upgrade my 256MB of DDR ECC Registered RAM, but i have bought a non-registered dimm of 512MB PC2100 DDR ECC 2.5.

When i try to boot up the server it beeps, and doesnt boot.

Now i wonder, is there any switch in the motherboard to make it accept non-registered memory?

Thanks a lot,
joan.

Re: tc2120 Memory upgrade

Make sure that you are using correct memory for the upgrade. You do not need to mess around with the switches on motherboard.

Following are memory options available from HP:

128MB of Advanced ECC PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM Memory Kit (1 x 128 MB) 287494-B21
256MB of Advanced ECC PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM Memory Kit (1 x 256 MB) 287495-B21
512MB of Advanced ECC PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM Memory Kit (1 x 512 MB) 287496-B21
1024MB of Advanced ECC PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM Memory Kit (1 x 1024 MB) 287497-B21

However, you may also want to check Kingston since it might be cheaper.

Hope it helps.

Re: tc2120 Memory upgrade

Yes, i have purchased a kingston memory:

KVR266X72C25/512 512MB 266MHz DDR ECC
CL2.5 DIMM

The main problem is that this memory is non-registered, and the tc2120 seems to require only registered memory.

I thought that the motherboard could accept either registered and non-registered memory, but looks like i'm wrong, because it can't initialize the memory on boot (long beep).

Any ideas are welcome
thanks,
joan.

Re: tc2120 Memory upgrade

Joan,

You have purchased wrong memory.
This is what you can use for the tc2120:
Kingston Part Number
KTC7494/256 256MB
KTC7494/512 512MB
KTC7494/1G 1GB

Virtually any configuration up to 4GB can be reached using combination of Kingston's 256, 512MB, and 1GB modules.

Cheers.
