Windows 2003 Server on COMPAQ DL 360

Hello all,

I have an old Compaq DL 360 that I wish to install Windows 2003 Server on. The latest version of the COMPAQ SmartStart software that I can find is 5.50 which does not support Server 2003 - only Server 200.

I can not find a driver that will recognize the internal array controller so booting straight from the Windows 2003 server CD results in a lock up or failing to locate a hard drive to install on.

This is Compaq hardware - still branded Compaq before HP bought them. Is this possible or am I the proud owner of a fully upgraded DL 360 that can only run NT 4 or Server 2000?

The final firmware update for the DL360 (G1) dated 2002-11-15 added support for Windows Server 2003. Is this what your DL360 (G1) is running?

Yes, I believe this would be first generation DL360 hardware. I have upgraded all firmware to the newest version available on this site:

BIOS flashed to P21
Integrated Smart Array flashed to v1.50

I used Smart Start 5.50 to clear all current configuration, re-created my RAID set, booted from 2003 Server CD and thats as far as I can get...it continues to lock up.

Does anyone have a DL 360 G1 that is currently running Server 2003?

Actually, the system board code is P21. It will say P21 regardless of the BIOS / system ROM version. Will you please confirm that it has the system ROM flashed to the version dated 11/15/2002?
