queue depth with EVA P6500 and HP-UX

Hi,

We have a  rp7440 server running HP-UX. External disks for this server are in a EVA P6500 storage
Occasionally the users reported performance problems of applications. These problems are due to the slowness in processing i/o.
When we look at sar-d avque column sometimes shows high values (from 10 to 300).
There is a recommendation to increase the value of the queue depth to a higher value (can reach 255).

My question is:
What negative effects could occur if the queue depth increases to a higher value, eg 128?
