access violation: _INS5176._MP.exe
This is an Installshield 5.1 file and the error seems to be related to the 16-bit subsystem (NTVDM.EXE process keeps running too after install exits)
Setup runs fine on W2K, but I have to run it on NT4... Any chance it can be reissued using Installshield 5.5 (32-bit setup.exe)?
If not please help!

I have the same error as well. NT4 Spk6a 128, Post Spk6 Security Roll-Up and IIS 4.0 Security Patches.

Re: access violation: _INS5176._MP.exe
It has something to do with our installer (InstallSheild) and its interaction with various MDAC components installed on the system. It is very difficult to pin down and we don't have an answer yet. We know that it shows up only on NT4 and has something to do with othe applications installed on the system.
For some people, upgrading to the latest MDAC fixes the issue. For some, using the version of MDAC that is installed with CIM7 (downgrading) fixes the issue.
So...if I could ask folks to who have this problem to try these things and report back, perhaps we can nail down what the fix is.
I hate to do this this way of course, but we can't duplicate the problem internally. We found evidence that CIM7 isn't the only product with this error (and Intel product has the same issue.)

Re: access violation: _INS5176._MP.exe
I don't think it has anything to do with MDAC; it seems more like a Security Rollup Package issue.
There are a number of applications from different companies (not only Intel) that have this problem while installing. The only thing they have in common is that they are all packed using Installshield 5.1 Professional.
So far none of these companies have found a solution to the problem (not even Installshield itself).
Why not simply repack the setup using Installshield 5.5 and reissue it instead of wasting valuable time and resources on this problem??? We'll just download the 200MB again...

Re: access violation: _INS5176._MP.exe
The server assigned to be the Insight M. Console is not Compaq. It was running Insight Manager Xe before, so after getting the error I decided to remove XE and try again (no success). Then I decided to try on a new DL380 I had a few days with no success either.
I agree that it looks like an Instashield problem. I think the problem could be related to where Instashield extracts the files and maybe it keeps them after extracting that could be the reason to issue an access violation error. Other possibility could be that extracted files remain read-only.
I stay waiting for guru's oracle...

Re: access violation: _INS5176._MP.exe
RvH- unfortunately moving the product to use InstallSheild 5.5 is not a quick task (if it were we would do so.) I suspect we'll upgrade the installer at some point this year but it has to be scheduled against the other things we need done. Of course, if it is the only way to solve the NT4 instlal problem it's priority will rise.
