Capturing DIMM serial Number

I'm using Compaq Insight Manager 7 SP2 and see a column for "serial number" under the "DIMM Slots" section but none of the serial nunbers are displayed. How can I poll to get the SN for each DIMM?

P.S. This thread has been moved from Windows based to ITRC Server Mgmt (Insight Manager 7) Forum.

Re: Capturing DIMM serial Number

This is most likely going to be impossible, especially if its a wintel machine. If there were a way to store this data in RAM, it would be erased on subsequent boots, or overwritten by normal activity unless there was a special NVRAM chip in addition the the SDRAM chips. I can also see this causing issues with third party RAM vendors.

Paul,

See whether or not "Everest Home edition" (URL http://www.lavalys.hu/downloads/everesthome100.exe) can run with your OS. This piece of freeware is your best chance for getting accurate information about the various components of your computer.

Re: Capturing DIMM serial Number

The modules that you are using may not be holding a serial number. If a serial number is present, then this will be found in the serial presence detect eeprom on the module in bytes: 95-98 for SDRAM and DDR modules.

Our company writes serial numbers to these ranges and can use customer defined ranges if required in the modules that we supply.

To check your modules SPD use a tool such as CTSPD downloadable from the web.
