How do you set up UPS alert emails?

Hi,

Has anyone out there got anything set up to automatically send an email if a server goes on UPS?

I have tried using Compaq Power Management Web Agent (Compaq Power Manager V2.02) but I can not get any emails to send when the server goes on UPS.

Any ideas?

I would have thought this would need to be generated from the UPS.

Hopefully the Server wont know that its power source has changed from the normal to UPS Supply.

Also, if you have multiple Servers on UPS then you'd get multiple messages rather than the single one from the UPS Supply.

We have this set up to send SNMP traps now using LanSafe III on some of our servers. This seems to be a better product than the Power Manager, but I am still a little confused by what each product provides. I then have IM7 send the email when it gets the trap. However, we are looking at purchasing NIC modules for all of our UPS devices so we get traps directly from the UPS instead of depending on the server being up. I would suggest this, because you can then directly test, manage and configure the UPS without needing a server. Take a look at Compaq SNMP/Serial Port UPSACC Card - Part number 192189-B21.

Forgot to say, you can download LanSafe III from the HP support site for all servers. I am not sure what UPS devices it supports, but it definitely supports R3000 and R1500 Compaq UPS devices.

I agree with Rob, if possible you should be getting your SNMP traps directly frmo the UPS units.

We have Compaq 2200 UPs's.

I currently have a system in place where the server detects the UPS alert and executes a batch file which sends an SMTP email through a command line tool.

I am looking at a more robust solution such as using IM7 to send out an email when it receives alerts/traps from UPS devices.

Does anyone out there have anything like this set up in IM7?
