Windows 2000 PROFESSIONAL and Insight Manager 7

We will be installing Windows 2000 Professional (not server) -- on a Proliant DL 320 (G2).

Can I install the Insight Manager agents (7.10) on this Operating Systerm/ hardware.
And can it then be managed by our Insight Manager 7 (service pack 2) server?

Only Server OSes are technically supported, but Windows 2000 Professional is so closely aligned with the server products that I do not anticipate any problems. At least I have not seen any on the Windows 2000 Professional systems I have observed with the hp Management Agents.

To use the hp Management Agents, make certain that you install SNMP and configure it. SNMP is loaded on the server versions of Windows 2000, but might have to be installed on the professional version.

Yeah it works. I installed SNMP and then ran the 7.10 Proliant Support Pack. It installed everything, except the Version Control agent (it said the VCA was not supported on that OS).

The box is seen via Insight Manager -- it just isn't monitoring as much hardware on it, as it normally would. But at least we will know if the box goes down.
